The End of the Practical Test

The End of the Test

Once you have completed all the exercises, you will be asked to return to the driving test centre. At this point, your examiner will let you know if you have passed or failed.

Fail

If you have failed the test, you should request feedback from the examiner, who will then go through your performance during the test to help you prepare yourself for your next test. Your driving report form will also show you where you made any mistakes. You may take a new practical test 10 working days later.

Pass

If you pass, and you have a photocard driving licence issued after 1 March, 2004, then you will be able to have your full driving licence issued to you automatically. The examiner will take your provisional licence and scan in the details and send them electronically to the DVLA. You will be given a pass certificate to prove that you passed your test, and your new full driving licence will arrive by post within three weeks.

If you have an old style licence issued before 1 March, 2004, or you do not want to use the automatic service, then you will be given a pass certificate by the examiner. You must then send in your test pass certificate and provisional licence to the DVLA, following the instructions on the back of the pass certificate.

Don't forget to send in your old-style provisional licence to the DVLA - if you don't claim your test pass within 2 years of the date of your test, you will lose your entitlement to drive and you will have to take and pass both parts of the driving test again.

After the Test

It is recommended that new drivers who have just passed their practical test consider taking 6 specially designed Pass Plus modules. Not only will they help you to become a better driver, but taking them will also give you a discount on your insurance.
