Fraudulent Buyers Wolverhampton

Anyone selling a car should be aware that thieves may pose as potential buyers. It is almost impossible for thieves to overcome a modern ignition system by hotwiring, and so they stand a much better chance of getting away with a car if they have the keys.

Fraudulent Buyers

Anyone selling a car should be aware that thieves may pose as potential buyers. It is almost impossible for thieves to overcome a modern ignition system by hotwiring, and so they stand a much better chance of getting away with a car if they have the keys. They may do this by stealing the car and the keys directly from you (see car jacking ) or by breaking into your house at a later date to take the keys. Whilst they're checking out your car, they could also be checking out what your home security arrangements are: whether you have an alarm, how secure your doors are and where you keep your car and house keys.

What You Should Do

Never allow a potential buyer to wander into your home, and always keep the house locked up whilst you are outside with the car. If you do allow a potential buyer inside (for example to go over the paperwork), do not let them see where you keep the keys or where your house alarm box is.

Never, ever leave your keys near potential access points such as the letterbox or a window. One of the newest and most ingenious ways for a thief to steal your vehicle is by using an implement such as a cane, fishing rod or aerial to hook the keys and drive away.
