Car Brokers
Telephone- and web-based brokers order new cars in bulk, and so are able to secure you substantial savings for you as a result. However, you they will not be able to offer you the personal service that a dealer can give you, nor will you be able to test drive the car. However, there is nothing to stop you from contacting a local supplier for the car you want to test-drive, then take advantage of the savings a broker can offer.
How it Works
Many brokers do not demand any fee for their services; they simply source the new car for you and then put you in contact with the main agents who can offer you the most favourable deal. You will then deal with that agent directly and buy the car in the normal way - apart from the fact that you will be buying it at a discounted price.
The broker either earns a fee from the agent or is supported by subscriptions from the agents to enable them to be included in the search database. However, this is not always the case, so you must make sure that there are no hidden costs before you order.
Advantages
- You can save thousands of pounds on main dealer prices
- One-stop shop for many different makes and models
- You can usually order the exact specification you want
- Many brokers source cars from other UK dealers, so it's easy to compare specs and prices
Disadvantages
- Limited personal contact
- No test drives available
- Not all brokers offer a part-exchange service
- Delivery times and fees can vary - make sure you check upfront
