Booking a Practical Test
Before you can take a UK practical driving test, you must have a valid Provisional Driving Licence and Theory Test certificate. Tests may be booked online, by phone and by post. If you require any special needs facilities at your practical test you will need to request these at the time of booking.
Online and Telephone Bookings
To book a practical test online or over the phone you will need a valid debit or credit card for payment (for example, Visa, Mastercard, Visa Electron, Delta, Switch/Maestro or Solo card), your driving licence number and your theory test certificate number. You can normally book a practical test online between 6 am and midnight every day. Call centres are open for booking and enquiries on Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm (except public and bank holidays). Check out the numbers and web address in the Useful Resources section.
Booking by Post
You may also apply for your practical test by post using an application form, which is available online or by request from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) booking line. Payment can be made by credit or debit card, by cheque or by postal order; however, cash payments are not accepted.
Rescheduling and Cancelling
If you need to cancel or reschedule a practical test, you can do this either online or by phone up to three clear working days before the test, without loss of fee. There is also an advanced speech recognition (ASR) system available that will allow you to change your existing practical test booking to an earlier date without the need to speak with a call centre agent. The system is available between 6.30 am and 6.00 am, seven days a week. You must have your theory test pass certificate number and your booking application reference number with you when you call.
